Wise Words from the Jedi

Don't say you'll try, just do it. You'll never get anywhere by trying and not doing. These words remind me that. Original creation. Silhouette via PlayBuzz.

What SkyGiants is and How to Win It

IP address for The Hive: play.hivemc.com
If you already know what this minigame is and how to play it, skip to paragraph three.

As you may or may not know, the Minecraft server, The Hive, has a game similar to Skywars (a game found on many Minecraft servers. To learn more about it, look out for a minigame review on it on this blog). This game is called SkyGiants. SkyGiants uses the same mechanics as Skywars, such as the fact that the player is high up on Sky Islands, however, there are are few differences. For example, if you happen to die in SkyGiants, it does not matter. You can continue to play the game, with no penalty to you (you won’t even lose your stuff!).

Middle of map, Fortress.

Everyone is split into four teams: yellow, blue, green, and magenta. On your island, you have a giant (for those of you unfamiliar with the mob, it looks like a giant zombie). Your team’s goal is to protect your giant, while eliminating all the other giants. There are a few ways to do this, however, some ways are better than others.

Before the game starts, you have a one minute thirty seconds/ninety seconds grace period. In this time, get as many supplies as you can. Before you mine for ore (which is minable by any pickaxe), be sure you know what the ore does. In this game, when you mine emerald ore you do not get an emerald, but rather experience and lapis lazuli. Iron gives you random supplies (such as string, sticks, and diamonds). Gold gives you random armor/tools, but has a chance of spawning a creeper and killing you. Redstone gives you more health, but has a chance of taking away health. Basically, it can add or take away hearts. The only way to earn hearts back it by mining more redstone, which is risky because it can still take away hearts. Gold blocks gives you credits, which I will explain in a bit. Lastly, diamond when mined drops a random diamond item (such as a shovel or a chestplate).

Be sure that before grace period ends, you are near an adjacent small island. Do not go to the center. Right as grace period ends, jump onto that island. Do not jump before, otherwise you will be met with a barrier and will die. Depending on the map, this island may have an enchanting table (if it isn't on the first, go to the second island in the row). Use your pickaxe to pick up the enchanting table. This will be useful later. Do not return to your base immediately, but rather continue forward. This will bring you to an enemy's base. Rush to the giant and try to get as many hits as possible on it. Enemies will try to stop you, but ignore them. Continue until you are killed.

Barrier around islands

Once killed you will respawn back into your base. Now, you will see a villager. It will sell gear, food, building blocks, and potions to you in exchange for credits (obtained by mining gold blocks, killing other players, and killing giants). Buy/craft/enchant anything you feel will help you in the future. I normally buy any diamond gear I still need, 30 apples, and 64 blocks of clay (based on the color of my team). I use the remaining credits to buy arrows. If you wish, build a wall around the giant to make it harder to reach it.

Sometimes, a monster will spawn in the middle of the map (the biggest island). You can kill it for a team wide potion effect, however, do not make this your first priority as it will not win you the game.

Arachne (spider), one of the monsters. Others include Talos (iron golem) and Hydros (guardian)
Look at the right of the screen to see the percentages of health the giants have. At this point, I would invest in a bow. Go for the giant with the highest percentage. If the others are at a low percentage, they will be easier to eliminate later as giant health does not regenerate. For example, if your giant was at 60% and green team's giant was at 21%, it would take less time to eliminate thus less time for them to eliminate you. Because your giant has more health than theirs, it gives you more time to kill their giant. Now, with your bow, climb onto a high point on the enemy team's island. I would recommend a tree as it provides cover and it makes it hard to hit/find you, however, any tall point will work. If a tall wall is built around the giant, you'll have to destroy it enough so you can hit it with an arrow. Shoot the giant to bring down its health. The giant has a large hitbox, so even if you aren't good with a bow it should be easy to hit. Once killed, move onto the next giant.

A good spot to shoot the giant

If your giant is attacked at any point, do the /recall command to go back to it. You must do this whenever your giant is being attacked. There is one exception to this. That is if there are only two teams and you are attacking their giant, with theirs being below 20%, and yours being higher than 30%.There are only two people on your team, so it is not likely that anyone is at the base. If you get eliminated because your giant died, you can't play anymore! If you can't find who is attacking your giant, look at the trees for archers. If they aren't there, look onto other nearby islands. Arrows can go far!

I can't guarantee that this will work 100% of the time, however I have won more games of SkyGiants than I have lost.

Winning with giant still at full health

Well, you made it to the end. Hope this helped! Be sure to comment your questions if you have any!
